The Hot Salon: Paintings by Scott Hove and Bethany AyresMay 22nd - June 23rdArtists' Reception: Friday, June 6th from 6pm to 9pm Scott Hove's and Bethany Ayres' insights into our perceived social roles take shape in large format works. Hove's kinetic works on canvases contrast with Ayre's retro-commercial art paintings on plywood. In Scott Hove's first series of paintings in over 5 years, he explores the concept of self-sacrifice. Sacrificing things of value to one's individual/cultural/global identity becomes necessary practice in order to keep up with one's obligations to the ever-growing economy. The paintings raise questions about finding one's place, and staying true. Ayres' new works continue an aesthetic of bright and metallic enamels on stained plywood and proceed towards increasingly edgier color combinations. They also posses a sentimental bent: “These paintings are about love,” said Ayres. “The colors, compositions and elements are about finding symmetry in love and the lonely, painful adventure towards that possibility.”
