Nature's IntentionsOctober 18th to November 19, 2007Nature’s iconic patterns, such the spirals in nautilus shells, the hexagonal patterns in crystals and honeycombs and DNA’s double helix, are routinely brought to discussion tables as evidence to either prove and disprove a preordained universe. Nature continues its course like a great ship, its vast wake tossing the rowboats of scientists, priests and artists who can never get close enough to catch a glimpse at the its captain’s identity. By rejecting the notion of the natural world as entirely random and senseless while equally dismissing idea that nature’s structure is preordained, an artist can see a natural world that imagines beauty, expresses mathematics and laughs at adversity rather than simply striving to overcome a hostile environment. In the October exhibit at Esteban Sabar Gallery entitled Nature’s Intentions, one can gaze upon a purposeful nature that spawns a universe of creatures that can revel in their own existence, no matter how ephemeral and accidental their origin, even when they are the result of bizarre human intervention.
