Black Tie Botanical Experience

December 30th, 2006 — January 29, 2007

Artists elegantly present the botanical world through watercolors in an exhibit curated by Nancy Ballard entitled “Black Tie Botanical Experience” at Esteban Sabar Gallery from December 30th, 2006 to January 29, 2007. A reception for the artists will be held on Saturday, December 30, from 3pm to 5pm.

Pastel and watercolor artist Nancy Ballard curates this exhibit that includes Bay Area artists Mary Harden, Carlyn Hunter, Jarv Falkard, J. Charmain Giuliani, Emily Pulido, Mary Conley, Joan Diblin, Jeanne Lotta-Sellars, Catherine Ford and Nancy Cohrs.

Each artist shares distinctive perspectives of the plant world—some through minute detail and precise accuracy, others through cutting edge imagery. Nancy Ballard applies her whimsical, distinctive style to representations of Bay Area flora.

Guests to the reception are encouraged to dress formally. Refreshments will be served.

Ten percent of all proceeds will be donated to the Helen Crocker Russell Library of Horticulture at the San Francisco Botanical Garden in Strybing Arboretum.

In a series of paintings shadowing this show, artist Marty McCorkle directs a tightly wound eye to the floral world. Notable among his works is "Dandelion," a collision between oil paint's rougher qualities and nature's most passive and gossamer iterations.
