Formations: Oil Paintings by Julie Alvarado

Drawing from her experience as an artist-in-residence in Joshua Tree National Park, Julie Alvarado’s paintings of land, sky, and vegetation demonstrate a fascination with detail, whether a monumental granite rock’s undulating forms or the subtle nuances of cloud and sky. Derived from photographed details of rocky desert landscapes, Alvarado’s paintings become sensual meditations on the minute to minute experience of place.

Visions of the Builtscape: Oil Paintings by Scott Courtenay-Smith

Departing from the human figure and “plein air” Northern California landscapes, Scott Courtenay-Smith turns to depicting Oakland’s urban profiles in “Visions of the Builtscape,” which explores the relationship of humans to the environment they have created.

Celebrating the human form, figurative artist Fernando Reyes exhibits works about the beauty and power of the human form. Whether depicting a single figure or a jumbled array, the common thread of Reyes’ assured, sensual line depicts dynamic and alluring depictions of the human form.
