‘Jugglers of Color’ in September Exhibition
September 1st to October 2nd, 2006
Artists Albert Hwang, and Douglas Light and Sue Averell demonstrate gifts for coloration in exhibitions at Esteban Sabar Gallery from September 1st to October 2nd, 2006.
Reception: Friday, September 1st, from 5pm to 9pm.
Risk and Revelation: Oil Paintings by Albert Hwang
A master of pure “smearing,” Albert Hwang creates richly colored abstract paintings by applying thick layers of pigment atop one another using broad edged tools rather than with paint brushes to create thickly textured surfaces of vibrant color. Deftly using disruptive color combination, Hwang’s thickly laden canvases seem to vibrate from conflict of color.
Psyche: Oil and Pastel Paintings by Douglas Light
Using energetic, vertical brush strokes of saturated colors on canvas, Douglas Light’s oil and pastel on canvas ironically produce serene understatements. Ten percent of proceeds from “Psyche” exhibit will be charitably donated toward a non-profit animal shelter.
Silver Lining: Acrylic Paintings by Sue Averell
Up-lifting and positive imagery distinguish Sue Averell’s canvases, whose representational work frequently engages dribbles and streaks to create cityscapes and landscapes. Her new works, inspired by big-skied New Mexican and Bay area landscapes, showcase her richly layered, brightly colored style and also includes samples from her botanical series, “Unstill Life”.
This exhibit runs from September 1st to October 2nd, 2006.
